As a team, we run on volunteer power. Each family is required to volunteer for 3 meets in a season. Below are the descriptions for volunteer positions.

HEAD VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

The following roles are leadership roles that are held for the entire season.

READY BENCH | Fun & Fast Paced

The Ready Bench is critical in managing the flow and organization of swimmers during a meet. This is the area where swimmers gather and are placed in their lanes for various events. Training will be provided before the 1st meet. This is a fun, fast-paced job where a loud voice is a plus!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before the meet begins.
  • Work with Age Groups Staff and Runner to get kids lined up in order of event and heat. 
  • Place swimmers on the ready bench and assist with moving swimmers to chairs. 

Volunteers Needed:

  • Home Meets, 6 Volunteers
  • Away Meets, 3 Volunteers

STROKE JUDGE | The "Referees"

Stroke judges play a crucial role in ensuring fair competition and upholding the integrity of swimming events. A swim meet simply cannot run without stroke judges! Must be certified by attending a 1-hour training. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Observing each swimmer to ensure they follow the rules for their stroke. Knowledge of swimming is a bonus, although none is required.
  • Help maintain a safe environment by ensuring the swimmers actions comply with safety regulations. 
  • Ensure swimming events are conducted fairly, safely, and in accordance with the rules. 

Stroke judges do not DQ swimmers, they just record it to ensure a fair swim competition.”

STARTER | The "Judge"

The Starter is responsible for making sure all swimmers receive a fair and equal start at a meet. This role requires concentration and quick reactions. A starter must be able to judge when an event is ready to begin.

Responsibilities include:

  • Announces every event in a meet - asks swimmers to step up and “take your mark”, and ensure they are all in their ready positions, before giving the start signal.
  • If a swimmer starts before the starting signal is given, the race will continue, and the starter will note the false start and lane number and record it as a disqualification.
  • A loud, clear voice is a big plus!
  • Check microphone volume and starting equipment is working correctly before the start of a meet.
  • Requirement for Home Meets only.

  • 1 Per Home Meet

TIMER | "Record Keepers"

Timers are essential for a smooth meet. Timers are also known as the swimmer's "Cheerleaders". This is a great job for watching your kid(s) swim.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Arrive at least 20 minutes before the meet begins.
  • Accurately record the times for each swimmer, ensuring that the official results are precise. 
  • Ensure each swimmer matches the name on the “Heat Sheet” and that each swimmer is swimming in the correct lane. 

Volunteers Needed: 

  • 12 Per Home Meet
  • 6 Per Away Meet (May vary by location)

AWARDS & RIBBONS | Recognition

Our Awards/Ribbons Team gets the fun job of handing out the Heat Winner Ribbons after each event. This is a great way to watch your kids and get to know kids on the team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • 1 person to distribute Heat Winner Ribbons at Home and Away Meets. This can be split between multiple people. No Heat Winner Ribbons are distributed during relays.

  • 2 Per Meet

COMPUTER ASSISTANT | All Results

This person works with the computer lead to prepare heat sheets in advance of every meet and final meet results. For home meets, the computer assistant will prepare and coordinate the distribution of draft heat sheets and a final copy to visiting team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Attends League Computer Training Class.
  • Attend All Home Meets
  • Assist in coordinating electric timing system. 
  • Coordinate computer information with Starter and Relay Coordinator.
  • Assist with label printing for both teams at home meets.
  • Help coordinate deck entries and changes due to combined heats or lane change.
  • Print and post results on the whiteboard at home meets.
